Welcoming their new album at the beginning of March, Doolin are making their splash within the music industry as one of the most interesting bands to enter during 2023.
Featuring the leading single entitled ‘Darkest Way’, the new album ‘Circus Boy’ sees influences of bands like Solas, Mumford & Sons and The Waterboys. The leading single that is featured on the album is also accompanied by a music video which sees the band performing the song in a circus tent. Full of colour and character, the song comes to life during the video and showcases the bands creative expression.
‘A finer gift hasn’t come from France since the Statue of Liberty was delivered’ said Irish American News about Doolin’s self-titled 2016 Compass Records debut.
Using thick layered harmonies, the song ‘Darkest Way’ is vocally strong and sturdy while small sections of string instruments such as violin contradicts these sounds and add a gentleness and sensitivity to the song that bring the songs a balanced feel.
The song was recorded by Doolin’ after three years of heavy touring which included some of the biggest roots festivals in the United States and Canada. Combining Irish and Celtic music, Circus Boy is an expressive album that has been beautifully produced.
“They’re an all-French band who play Irish traditional music brilliantly.”- Frank McNally, The Irish Times
