Glasgow-based singer songwriter Barry Noakes is set to release his debut album, A New Dawn, in May. Whether it’s the wistful title track, ‘A New Dawn’ or the undeniably fun and uplifting ‘Trailer Tent’, there’s something in there for everyone.
“I’d say my music was now part-folk, part-country, part-indie but all heart”, the artist had to say.
A New Dawn perfectly exhibits Barry’s musical and technical prowess as a songwriter and producer. His early classical musical education is evident in the complex harmonies used throughout and Barry displays an enviable multi-instrumentalism across all tracks. With shades of influences from the likes of John Prine, Barry has managed to create a unique and personal sound with his intricate guitar parts, impressive production and melodies well-worth whistling.
“Broadly speaking the album follows me from the point of the separation to thoughts of a brighter future and reconciliation with the past.”
Barry found himself inspired following a broken relationship and had begun playing solo in Glasgow. When lockdown hit, Barry dedicated his time to recording in his home studio, first producing and playing the piano, double bass, mandolin, fiddle and viola on his first single ‘Get Me Down’ and now the album A New Dawn.
A New Dawn will be released on 1st May digitally, on CD and limited-edition vinyl.
