The Baluji Music Foundation (BMF) has launched their ‘Blind to the Facts’ survey, in bid to expose the challenges faced by blind and visually impaired individuals across the music industry. The results will reveal what is required to achieve greater inclusion.
This survey will update an initial inquiry carried out in 1995, which highlighted the starkly limited opportunities within the realms of performing for blind musicians. These astounding revelations led to the establishment of the BMF, and the Inner Vision Orchestra, the only orchestra of professional blind musicians in the UK.
After close to three decades following the original survey, the 2023 ‘Blind to the Facts’ investigation is funded by the Vision Foundation and is supported by the RNIB and Platinum Trust. An extension of the original research will certainly be a thought-provoking way to see how much change has really taken place.
Taking place between 20th February and 3rd April, contributions can be completed online or via phone call. The outcome? A true reflection on how much society really has progressed in the past 30 years, and how inclusive music really is.
