It’s been a while since we’ve had a pop princess in our midst. The most recent wave of teen stars, like Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, and Selena Gomez and co. have graduated to more mature audiences along with the turn into their 20s. But there is one budding singer we can think of who’s chomping at the bit to fill their shoes. At just 13-years-old, Hitha is bidding to be the next young starlet. The Californian based singer-songwriter has recently released ‘Standing Up With Pride’, a pop romp which delivers a message of positivity. We speak to Hitha to find out what it’s like to be a pop princess in 2018.
You say you hope to inspire generations with your music. What’s the reaction been like at school to your new single?
So far whoever (including my friends at school) has heard my song “Standing Up With Pride” have complimented me on it which encourages me to write/sing more.
The path of a teen pop star is notoriously bumpy, how do you stay grounded?
I stay grounded because I know at the end I will continue pursuing my passion and will be happy.
How are you balancing your school work with this music project?
Time management is key. Education and music are very important to me. I balance my work by prioritizing and by being flexible with my schedule.
Are there any pop stars in the music industry that you look up to?
I look up to Demi Lovato, not only because she manages to turn her hard past into inspiration for music, but also stands for gender equality and LGBT rights.
Your songs portray a message of positivity and hope. What’s your main source of inspiration?
My main source of inspiration is everyday life. I try to take problems from everywhere to make my songs relatable so everyone can connect with them.
What are your future plans for when you finish school?
I just want to continue my passion and I’m willing to go where ever it leads me.
Most venues have an age restriction of 16, how do you plan to perform live?
I will take any opportunity of a live performance that knocks on my door where under 16 is allowed to perform.
Does your Asian heritage influence the music you make?
I actually started my music with India Classical singing when I was 4. Indian classical signing helped me with many vocal/technical attributes and I have realized that music is my passion. Basically, it gave me foundation to build my music future on.
